Frieiresa cow
The rusticity, the ease of handling and the great tameness of this breed make it optimal for extensive regimes.
Area de producción: La Frieiresa takes its name from the Frieiras region, within the municipalities of Gudiña and A Mezquita, in the southeast of the province of Ourense. Its geographical area of origin, which for different reasons had little chance of expansion over time, reaches the municipalities of Rios, A Gudiña and Vilardevós and reaches the Massif Central. Likewise, the presence of animals of the breed is verified in localities bordering the aforementioned Galician province, located in the province of Zamora. This area had a high density of bovine breeds: to the south the Mirandesa, to the north the Vianesa, to the east the Alistano-Sanabresa and to the west the Limiá and formerly the Verinesa.
The rusticity, the ease of handling and the great gentleness of this breed make it optimal for extensive regimes, because it also takes advantage of material resources that other more select breeds would discard. In the past, these characteristics made it a highly appreciated breed for agricultural work. Animals are washed chestnut, darker in males and lighter in young. Darkening of the neck, face, chin, forearm and ventral region. Snout surrounded by a white halo. Visible mucosa and black pigmented eyelid margins. Another characteristic to highlight in the breed is the long hair in the frontal region. This trait results in dominant golden blonde bangs, thus appearing in all crosses. Very abundant hair on the tail tuft.
